ChatGPT is a powerful AI-driven software that answers any question you ask it. It is very similar to Alexa, Siri, and other digital personal assistant apps. Search engines index pages they find on the internet and display them as results when the content on them matches a query users enter in their text box and press the keyboard’s enter key. Both services are built to clear the doubts of users but which one is better?
Can ChatGPT become a great alternative to Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, etc? Should you trust it? Here’s our comparison of the two services:
Search engines vs ChatGPT
Number of users
CGPT has about 100 million users, according to the Play Store. It is a new service compared to Google. The latter has been functional for more than 20 years. It is used by more than 500 million people daily. The Google search engine serves around 100k requests every second. Bing is not as popular as its counterpart but is the default search engine on Edge, a fast-growing web browser built by Microsoft Corporation.
Ads
One of the major sources of revenue for search engines such as Google, and Bing is ads. On the Google search result page, you’ll find inline advertisements at the top and bottom of the results. ChatGPT doesn’t have ads currently but it offers a paid subscription plan for $20. This plan is available only to users located in the United States.
Results
ChatGPT generates and displays a single result when you ask a question to it. Search Engines show 10 to 12 results on a page. At the bottom of the page, you’ll find a paginator. To see more options, you must click on a number. The content you read on websites will be different but they address the same question. For example, if you look for iPhone specifications on Google, you’ll find several websites sharing the same details. You will have to find the best content/result by yourself.
Complexity
Search engines are very complex. According to Google, they consider more than 200 factors to rank pages. Content and backlinks are leading factors among the lot. CGPT is a very sophisticated service. Creating applications powered by AI technology is not a piece of cake. Unlike ChatGPT, which produces a single result, Bing/Google rank many web pages in their results.
Accuracy
Content published on leading news websites such as Washington Post, The New York Times, etc is written by humans. It is peer-reviewed before being made available on the site. ChatGPT is an AI-backed web application. It gains knowledge from content written by humans.
CGPT may answer medical-related questions but not many people will take the answer seriously. The reason for the same is trust. If a remedy or tip was suggested by a doctor with an MD or any other medical degree, you could have taken it seriously. You can easily find highly researched articles or content written by experts in certain
My thoughts on the two services: ChatGPT is a great application but I don’t think it can replace search engines such as Bing or Google in the future. At current times, it is difficult to completely or blindly trust AI. I have given one example in the above paragraph.
