How to fix Windows WiFi disappeared or disconnecting issue?

The Wi-Fi connectivity option has been a part of Windows operating system for a long time. Although the latest versions of Windows have far fewer bugs than its predecessors, there’s nothing perfect in the world of computers. A user may face some issues while using a Microsoft OS powered computer. One such error is Wi-Fi disappeared or unstable (frequently disconnecting). I too faced this issue in the past and have managed to fix the same by myself. Here are some things I did and some other steps you can follow to fix this problem.

Windows Network and Internet settings

Disable the “random hardware address” function: The Windows 11 operating system has a feature called “random hardware addresses” which isn’t active by default. If you turn this feature on, the OS will change the address of your device which in turn makes it difficult for people to track you. If Wi-Fi is disconnecting frequently, disable this feature. To do so, open Windows settings and choose the option “Network & Internet” from the sidebar.

Restart the phone: When you restart your smartphone, the Android/iOS operating system may flush the network related caches. The network-related process will also be restarted. Thus, if the process had encountered any error while it was running, it may now run smoothly.

Is the hotspot in the range: If the hotspot signal strength is weak, the computer’s Wi-Fi will disconnect frequently. Try to get both in the range so that the signal strength is good.

Driver related issue: If the Wi-Fi has stopped working suddenly, you should check whether its driver is on your PC or not. To do so, open the device manager. Click on the “Network Adapter”. Check if any Wi-Fi related item is available among the list of items displayed by the device manager. If the item is missing, click on your desktop name which appears right below the toolbar and choose the option “scan for hardware change”. When you do so, the Windows operating system will scan the hardware of your computer and will install missing drivers. Once the driver has been installed, restart your machine.

Hardware issue: The above problem can be caused by the hardware malfunction. In this case, the only thing you can do is get the malfunctioning chip replaced. Whether or not the warranty for the computer has expired, take it to the service center. If you take it to a local technician, the technician may fix your machine with a non-genuine hardware component which may not have any warranty. If a non-genuine Wi-Fi chip gets damaged, you will have to again get the damaged chip replaced. Genuine products last longer. Once the damaged component has been replaced, you turn on the computer and sign in to your account. The OS will automatically install the missing driver and the Wi-Fi will function normally.

Are you using the phone’s hotspot? Like Windows OS, mobile phones support Wi-Fi connectivity. If the above things/steps are not applicable to you, you should check our article Wi-Fi hotspot disconnects frequently article where I’ve covered the steps to share the internet connection between the computer and the phone via Bluetooth in case the Wi-Fi chip of the mobile has been damaged.
