Porting a number from one telecom operator to another has not only become easier but has also become quicker. Last week, I ported my number from Vi to Reliance JIO. I have shared the process and my experience of the same in the following paragraphs.
Why did I choose JIO and not Airtel? I had chosen Airtel initially. When I filled out their porting request form on the Thanks App and submitted the same, I got a message containing the phone number of an Airtel Executive the other day. I waited for 7 hours but I didn’t hear from the executive. I then called him. The executive told me that he stays far away from my location. I disconnected the call and filled out the porting request form on the JIO website.
Within half an hour of the same, I got a call from the Reliance executive and confirmed my Mobile Number Portability request. The executive was at my doorstep within an hour and carried out the task of porting the number. He asked me to pay Rs 239 and told me that my request would be processed in three working days. The 239 Rs I paid to him was a mandatory first-time recharge fee.
There are two ways to port a number from Vi to JIO. Use the My JIO application or open the website of the company and fill out the form. Although the UPC code is delivered to the phone within a minute or two of requesting it, you should be ready with it beforehand to make sure that the time of the executive isn’t wasted.
When you fill out the form and submit it, you’ll get an SMS from JIO and then a call from the company’s support staff.
Reasons why I switched to another operator:
Vi has good plans but every time I receive an incoming call, the network switches from 4G to 2G. My phone is connected to the laptop via WiFi during work hours. So, the abruption in data connection is one of the reasons why I ported my phone number to JIO.
Another reason why I switched to JIO is “network”. When I visited my village in Rajasthan in January/February 2023, the 4G connection was unavailable in the rooms of my house. Because of this issue, I was not able to work on my online projects. To use 4G, I had to go to the terrace. Placing the phone in scorching heat to use the network wasn’t the best idea according to me. So, I remained offline for a time until I stayed in the village.
Reliance JIO has better plans. The firm’s 2999 Rs provides 2.5 GB of data every day. It offers 0.5 GB extra data compared to its counterparts. Currently, the company is running a valentine’s day offer wherein it is extending the validity of the 365-day plan to 383 days. It will also offer an extra 57.5 GB of data.
How has my experience with RJIO been so far? I am very satisfied with the performance of the company’s network. The download and upload speed is excellent. The mobile application of the firm is very useful as well. It enables you to buy products from JIO Mart, recharge your phone number/DTH, pay bills, etc.
