When you’re playing a game or watching a movie, there’s nothing more frustrating than a WiFi hotspot getting disconnected. There are a few reasons for the same. Here, we have not only discussed the reasons causing the issue but have also shared their solutions.
Network issue [Reason]
Porting from Vi to JIO has been disastrous for me. Ever since I ported my phone number to another carrier, the WiFi hotspot of my phone doesn’t work great. Internet connectivity between phone and PC gets disrupted many times during the day. The only thing that can fix this problem is a new SIM card or MNP. As it has been less than 90 days since I ported my phone number, I cannot change my operator without changing the number. I tried the other method. I inserted another SIM in my dual SIM smartphone and started using it for accessing the internet. Since then, I have never encountered the WiFi disconnecting issue.
Use Bluetooth tethering feature [Solution]
Do you know you can use Bluetooth to share mobile data connection with the computer? Smartphones ship with a Bluetooth tethering feature. To enable this feature, open the phone settings, and tap on the “Hotspot & Tethering” option.
Is BT-based internet connection reliable? Although the connectivity between the phone and PC will be stable, there’s a disadvantage of using BT instead of WiFi. The maximum speed on the internet would be capped at 2 Mbps, no matter how fast your mobile data connection is i.e. if you’re using a 4G connection with an average speed of 18 Mbps, the maximum internet speed on the computer will be up to 2 Mbps.
After activating BT tethering and connecting the mobile with the PC, open the Network Connections tool on Windows. Choose the Bluetooth connection type and select the “access point” connection method.
Install Netshare [Solution]
Netshare is a 648 kilobytes application that uses the WiFi direct module of the phone to create a hotspot. It shows a checkbox with the label “Stop/Start WiFi hotspot”. When you select the box, the hotspot will start. When you tap on the box, it will stop. The default password for the connection is 87654321. Make sure you change the password to prevent misuse of the network.
Netshare lets users change the network bandwidth (2GHz/5GHz) and it can also keep the mobile device awake when the connection is active. You can configure the application to make users who want to use the mobile data connection enter a PIN. Once you’ve set up Netshare on the phone, you should modify the proxy settings for the network on the PC. If you don’t do so, the internet won’t work.
Closing words: Changing the SIM card (phone number) or switching to another telecom service provider via MNP is the best solution for the WiFi hotspot frequently disconnecting issue. In some countries, you can port out a number after porting in only after a certain number of days. In India, the maximum number of days you have to wait is 90. If you cannot switch to another operator due to this reason, install a WiFi hotspot app such as Netshare (or its alternative).
