Microsoft had launched “Bing Rewards” in 2010. The program was initially rolled out in the United States. Now, it is available in many countries including India. “Rewards” seems to be a campaign to increase the users of the MS search engine Bing (predominantly) and other products such as Outlook, Edge browser, etc. For example, every time you use Bing to find something, Microsoft will award you a few points.
Microsoft has launched a dedicated “Bing Rewards” website where you can track the points you’ve earned and the items you can redeem with them.
How to earn points? According to the official Microsoft Rewards website, you can earn up 100 additional points by simply using the AI powered Bing application. Bing is integrated with OpenAI ChatGPT. When you search for something on it, the website will not only display results but will also show an answer generated by the ChatGPT AI engine. This feature of Bing is time saving as you have the answer right in front of you. You don’t have to click on a search result.
Another way to earn the Microsoft Reward points is to use Bing on mobile and desktop. You can earn up to 120 points daily by simply using the search engine on a phone and computer. You will have to search 20 different things, questions, tips, recipes, etc to earn 60 points. Microsoft awards 3 points to the users every time you enter something in textbox displayed on the Bing homepage and press/tap the enter key.
The Edge browser’s settings page has a toggle option to enable/disable the “rewards” option on a blank tab. If you click this option, you will see a small window containing activities you can perform to earn points. I was suggested the following activities:
- Solve a picture puzzle, use Outlook.
- Lookup a word using Bing online dictionary.
What can do with the points? The “Rewards” page has an option called “Redeem”. If you click this option, the page will show a list of items you can get by exchanging the points. One of the many things you can get is an Amazon/Flipkart gift card.
The two eCommerce giants accept gift cards which you can use to get an additional discount on the goods you purchase from the eCommerce websites. Flipkart does not have a wallet feature built in. You will have to use the gift card to get discount.
Amazon is integrated with Amazon Pay system. Pay is a full ledged payment system with a wallet. It lets you recharge phone number, pay credit card bills, send money to friends, receive money online, and more. Who can use “Pay”. Everyone having an account on Amazon.in can use the “Pay” module. To unlock more features, you will have to complete KYC. If you have got an Amazon voucher, you can convert the voucher cash to wallet cash with just a few clicks of button.
How long will the “rewards” campaign last? I don’t know how long the program will last. As long as it is live, why not earn a few reward points by simply using the search engine.
