Kotak 811 Virtual Debit card not showing? Try this

Kotak 811 is one of the leading zero balance saving accounts schemes in India right now. If you’ve a savings a/c with this bank but you are not able to use it fully because of the lack of debit card, go through the following paragraphs where I’ve shared the steps you can follow to get the DC for free.

While applying for the Kotak 811 account, you can opt for the physical DC which costs 299 Rs. If you go for it, the bank will send the card to your official address within 2 or 3 working days. To be honest, you don’t need a physical debit card if you have an 811 a/c. The Virtual DC is generated for each 811 accounts. If the official website of the bank is not showing it in your dashboard, you will have to create the DC manually.

Kotak card

Kotak Mahindra bank has launched two mobile banking applications – one for 811 customers specifically and the other for all users who have an a/c with it. You can see your debit card in the latter but cannot generate one with it.

If the virtual DC is not available for your account, you will see an error when you click on the “debit card” option. The former i.e. Kotak811 Banking app is much simpler and easier to use than the latter one. It shows the DC details on the main interface itself. If you don’t see the details, click on the debit card option and select the option “set up”. When you do so, the Kotak811 will raise a request.

The virtual visa card will be issued in 5 working days. If you cannot use the mobile applications, you should dial the customer care number and ask the executive to raise a request on your behalf.

Once your virtual DC is displayed in the dashboard, you should create a PIN for it. You can do this by signing into your net banking account. While generating one, you will be asked to enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.

Kotak811 allows you to use the DC for domestic as well as international transactions. It also allows you to copy the card number to the clipboard so that you don’t have to type the same when a merchant website asks you.

Why debit card is required?

To use UPI services: Kotak 811 will generate an UPI ID for your account. You can use the same with the mobile banking app. 811 will ask you to enter your MPIN which you had created while applying for an 811 account. To earn cash back for making UPI payments, you will have to use a third-party UPI app such as Cred or Paytm. These services will create an UPI ID only if you enter the last six digits of your card.

To withdraw money: Unless you’ve activated net banking for your savings account, you cannot withdraw cash from the Kotak Mahindra bank ATM nearby you. If net banking is active, you can use the cardless cash withdrawal feature.
